A Letter To Norway

Dear Norway,

Really? Really? Are you really making these sorts of decisions? Ok, let’s have a little talk.

Honestly, you got extremely lucky in 2009. Fairytale was just an amazingly perfect song. But it was just one song. Let’s not get full of ourselves here. There’s a reason you’ve come in the bottom 5 literally dozens of times. You need to get your act together.

Yes, you had a brilliant song in 2008.

Yes you won ESC 2009 with just…just an amazing song.

Sure, you tried last year and picked a meaningful ballad sung by a handsome guy…it’s not your fault that Europe just wasn’t in the mood for it.

But common.

I mean I can see how you got dazzled by the just Norwegian Balladiness of Varldokk and I can even understand Not That Easy winning the First SF. It’s growing on me. I can ALMOST forgive you for not putting Trenger Mér through.

But Common.

You can depend on me? I can see it going through to the Second Chance but winning? And “You’re like a melody” coming SECOND?!?!?!  I mean I guess it’s possible that maybe everyone in Norway just assumed that every sane, reasonable Norwegian would vote for it, and something in You Can Depend On Me touched your little Norwegian Hearts and you wanted to make sure it got Something.

But I swear to God, if “You’re like a Melody” doesn’t sweep the Final, I will officially give up all hope in you.  I mean, I understand that awesome songs like “I’ll be yours” and “Hungry for You” are not to everyone’s taste…and maybe you just think they’re a bit too “Swedish” to do well at ESC.

But “You’re Like A Melody” is seriously amazing. Once in a lifetime awesome. I mean common. JUST PAY ATTENTION! It has just simply everything. It’s touching but danceable. I mean, it’s for sure gonna take Europe by storm, you might as well be the trend setter and make it your entry.

I mean just look at her.
Guitar.
Blonde.
Pink dress.

WIND MACHINE!
Hand motions.
Switching from stand up mic to show that she cares.

Scronized walking across the stage with her perfectly in sync and color cooradinated back up singers.

Norway.

You aren’t supposed to get 2 “Fairytales”.

Take it.

If you don’t,

I sincerely and eternally will hold a grudge….so watch out.

Cordially,

Grant

Lyrics –
So unexpected, you got me so out of the blue
We connected; you caught me off-guard
And now you’re a thought I can’t unthink
It’s almost like you’ve always been right here
I never thought I would fall for somebody like you
I was waiting for something specifically
It all changed when you came in
You’re the spark where love begins for me
And baby I can’t fake it
You’re like a melody
The kind of beat that sticks to me
You’re right where I want to be
I don’t want it ever to end
You’re like a favourite song
A number one you sing along to
Don’t stop, just let it go repeat on my radio
(You’re like a melody) Repeat on my radio
How did I not see it coming, I felt something shift
And then it got me wondering
What if love is more than chemistry
Love is but a mystery to me
And I don’t understand it
You’re like a melody
The kind of beat that sticks to me
You’re right where I want to be
I don’t want it ever to end
You’re like a favourite song
A number one you sing along to
Don’t stop, just let it go repeat on my radio
(You’re like a melody) Repeat on my radio
(You’re like a melody, a melody, a melody)
Hey baby you were all the good notes you’re singing to me
The way you’re lining up the two points so perfectly
And you could make it sound so easy
And now I can’t erase it
(You’re like a melody)
(The kind of beat that sticks to me)
(That tune is all I hear)
(I don’t want it ever to end)
And baby I can’t fake it
(You’re like a favourite song)
(A number one you sing along to)
(Don’t stop, just let it go out on my radio)
(You’re like a melody, repeat on my radio)
(You’re like a melody out on my radio)
