My Initial Impressions –

Overall, I thought this was a pretty decent Semi Final song wise.

01 – Stay –

This is a nice, powerful dance song with a lot of Techno elements. It has a great energy and I really enjoy the heavy beat and up tempo energy. The chorus is magnificent and makes the song just that bit more fabulous. Excellent song. 9 Points out of 10.

02 – Si –

This is a beautiful, sincere ballad and I really like it (what is it with me liking ballads this year?). It starts off soft and slow and then gains momentum to because a really classy, gorgeous, emotional number. I love Marthe voice and I think it suits this ethnic ballad perfectly. For sure, this is one to watch. 8 Points out of 10.

03 – Things Change –

This is somewhat of a low – key country song, which is somewhat unusual for Norway. It’s an ok number, but nothing really special. Not really to my taste, but not a bad little ditty. It’s somewhat growing on me. 6 Points out of 10.

04 – Sammen –

This song is an interesting mix of rap and mid tempo pop. I enjoy it’s drama but as a song, I don’t really dig it. I think it’s a little boring and well just not that great. 4 Points out of 10.

05 – The Greatest Day –

This is a pleasant pop/rock song. It’s not really anything special, but it has some really enjoyable moments. I enjoy the lead singers voice. I also really like the bridge and the chorus isn’t bad at all. It’s just a little bit bland for my tastes. 5 Points out of 10.

06 – Euphoria –

Here we go! This is a very cool, rhythmic up tempo number with a very cool energy. I like it a lot. I really enjoy it’s beat and the cool, controlled chaos of the vocals and the awesome backing singers. I think the bridge adds a very interesting element to the song. I’m liking it more and more every time I hear it! For sure, this is a song to watch! 7 Points out of 10.

07 – Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time –

This is a slower song with a lot of folksy and country elements. Not at all to my taste. I find it rather boring and uneventful. Bleck. 3 Points out of 10.

08 – Sailors –

A fantastic up tempo dance number! I love it instantly from the first beat. It’s very interesting. I love the measured beat and how it erupts into a great melody at the chorus. There’s a very cool, interesting quality to this song that just hooks me in! Excellent! 9 Points out of 10.

Comments –

This was a bit of a no brainer compared to the last SF. “Sailors” and “Stay” were by leaps and bounds my top 2 Songs, but “Sailors” managed to get my top spot with “Stay” regulated to second. I had a little trouble with the exact placement of “Si” and “Euphoria”, but I knew they’d both get into my Second Chance Round.

I think that at the actual SF, “Stay” has the strongest chance of winning. I think “Si” and “Sailors” will also get into the Final, although I could also see “Euphoria” making it up there.

My Initial Impressions –
I was EXTREMELY impressed with the overall strong quality of the songs in this Semi Final. It finally felt like Norway!

01 – Keeps On Dancing –

A cool, rock song. I like it, but after a few listens it just falls flat. I like it, but not enough to give it any sort of preference when it comes to moving on. 6 Points out of 10.

02 – I’ve Got You –

This is a nice, simple, sincere and folksy song. It has some pretty great moments, but it is cursed with being thrown into the best Semi Final of MGP 2012, and thus I just can’t give it any sort of place to advance. 6 Points out of 10.

03 – Make It Better –

A nice, dancey up tempo number. I enjoy the steady beat, Tommy’s voice and the overall feelings of this song. It has a great, catchy beat and melody and a fantastic message. It has a really cool, modern feel. A fantastic song for sure. 7 Points out of 10.

04 – Another Heartache –

This ballad starts of slow, but you can just tell that it has a lot of potential. The bridge grows into a pretty fantastic chorus. I really enjoy the different musical levels of this song and the positive message. I really like it. 7 Points out of 10.

05 – Crush –

Erm…AMAZING! Now this is what I’m talking about! I freaking LOVE this song! From the start, this somewhat cheesy dance number draws you in. Malin is a GODDESS! Everything about this song is wonderful, from the modern beat to the dancey hook to the fantastic chorus! I have a feeling a lot of people will have a “Crush” on this number (see what I did there?) This is officially my song to beat! 12 Points out of 10.

06 – Ola Nordmann –

This is a rather fun, folksy rock number. It just screams “NORWAY” to me. It’s nice and I enjoy it but in this strong SF, I just think it doesn’t measure up to some of the other songs. 7 Points out of 10.

07 – You And I –

Fantastic! This is probably the most modern song in the whole SF. It’s very high energy. I love it! I really enjoy the somewhat ethereal quality of Minnie’s voice. The more I hear it, the more obsessed with it I become. I love it’s danceyness, it just begs you to move along. I’m also really in love with the lyrics. Perfection. 10 Points out of 10.

08 – Shapeshifter –

Another up tempo number and of course I adore it. It has a bit more Drama then some of the other songs. The intro is a little subdued, but the chorus is just an eruption of sound and melody. Very pop with just a hint of rock. An excellent number to be sure! 8 Points out of 10.

Comments –
Overall, I had a somewhat difficult time with my voting in this Semi Final, mainly because of the number of great songs! However, from the Moment I heard it “Crush” has been my absolute favorite and I think it might win my whole MGP. “You And I” got my second spot in the final with relative ease. I had a hard time chosing between “Make It Better” and “Shapeshifter”, but at the moment, I’m digging “Shapeshifter” a little bit more, but they both get a spot in my Second Chance Round. I was torn between “Another Heartache” and “Ola Nordmann” as they both have their moments, but I’m sure at least one of them will pull a “Wild Card”.

Before the contest, I’d predicted “Crush”, “Make It Better” and “Shapeshifter” to advance, as I thought these were the three songs that the Norwegians would dig most. I knew “You And I”, despite being one of my favorites, was just a bit too much for the Norwegian voters.

In the actual SF,  “Ola Nordmann” managed to come out on top, which surprised me a little but not too much. As I said before, it’s very “Norway”. “Make It Better” pulled the second spot and “Crush” got third (yay).
